- It is reported that under the support of China's MII (Ministry of Information Industry), China Mobile will soon become the eighth council members of China's TDIA (TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance), making China Mobile the first mobile operator to participate in the alliance since its inception in 2002, according to Sohu News. To date, China Mobile has deployed 15,000 TD-SCDMA base stations, along with 310,000 nationwide GSM base stations, according to the same report. Other council members include Datang, Huawei, Soutec, Holley, Lenovo, ZTE, CEC, and Potevio.

- Shanghai Mobile, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Mobile, will kick off construction for 1,500 TD-SCDMA base stations in Shanghai by June 2008, EE Times Asia reported. The total number of TD-SCDMA base stations is expected to reach 3,000 units by year-end 2008. Aside from the completion of 2.75G and 3G coverage, China Mobile also aims for wireless network construction in Shanghai leveraging advanced technologies such as Wi-Fi and HSDPA, according to the same source.
